Body image, Anti-obesity programs & beauty myths

The pressure to be “perfect” is affecting kids younger and younger. How can parents instil a healthy body image in our kids?

Marci Warhaft-Nadler is a body image advocate, eating disorder survivor and founder of the Fit vs Fiction body image workshops for schools that use images and real life stories to break down the dangerous myths related to beauty and fitness in an image obsessed world. She is the author of “The Body Image Survival Guide for Parents: Helping Toddlers, Tweens and Teens Thrive” which gives parents the tools they need to empower their kids with the confidence they deserve.

Tune in this Saturday, April 6 at 12pm PT as Marci explains how anti-obesity programs may be doing more harm than good and what they can be doing better. She’ll discuss the specific steps that parents can take to instil a healthy body image and how to handle relatives who make negative food or weight comments around your kids. Listen for your chance to win a copy of her book!

Managing tantrums, meltdowns and other joys of parenting

Parenting young children can feel like a marathon of non-stop child demands. There is great joy in having and raising children, but many families feel ill equipped to handle the challenges. Many of us don’t want to shout at, hit or blow up at our children but may not know alternatives. When we feel better prepared to handle the hard parts of raising young children, we can make it through those trying moments intact and allow for all the joy that comes with being a parent.

Andrea Nair is a parenting educator, speaker, writer and psychotherapist based in London, Ontario who specializes in the connection between parents and their children. Her therapy background helps the parents she works with to understand at a deeper level what to do when kids drift away, behaviour goes wild, button are pushed and old negative self talk gets too loud.

Tune in or stream live to CFAX 1070 this Saturday, April 6 from 12-1pm PT. Call in and join the discussion or ask a question: 250-386-1161 or tweet us!
