How’s your child’s eye health? + Re-Purposing for Play

How’s your child’s eye health?

More than 80% of learning occurs through vision, yet this complex sense has numerous opportunities to develop abnormally. Catching eye health and sight issues early can help children in so many ways, but sometimes it can be difficult to know when there is a problem.

I welcome Dr. Nazima Sangha and Dr. Judith LeRoy from Family Eyecare Centre to the show this Saturday, Sept 10 at 10am to discuss the different things to keep an eye out for! (No pun intended, really!) Plus, I’ll ask them about the facial tics that kids sometimes get, what the right age is for contact lenses, how to get our little ones used to wearing and caring for glasses and I’ll take your calls as well! 250-386-1161

Re-Purposing for Play

Kamloops mom and founder of Spark Your Imagination, Tamara Vukusic, is hoping to change the way kids think about potato mashers. And napkin rings. Even bike handle bars.

As a counter-movement to the increasing amounts of screen time kids get (in general and with her own two boys) Tamara has become a strong advocate of ‘re-purposing for play’ to get kids using their imagination. She has come up with 50 common household items (as examples) that can be used for something other than the purpose they were intended for. By getting kids to think outside the box (with a little help to get started) she is hoping to help create a future generation of lateral thinkers and problem solvers. Join us to pick up some of Tamara’s great ideas that you can use with your own kids!

Live stream the show on CFAX 1070 this Saturday, September 10th from 10-11am PT.
