Podcast: Roots of Empathy

by shirley on January 29, 2011

Where does empathy come from? How can our children learn to have some?

Roots of Empathy is an award-winning charitable organization that offers empathy-based programming for children. A parent & baby from the community visits a classroom over the course of a year with a Roots of Empathy instructor.

Children observe the relationship between the baby & parent and learns how the baby is growing and changing, how the parent responds to the baby’s needs. Children learn to understand the perspective of the baby and the attachment relationship between the parent & baby, an ideal model of empathy.

Pamela Hachey, Senior Mentor, and Christina Rumsey, volunteer facilitator for Roots of Empathy joined me for a chat on Jan. 29.
