Roots of Empathy in the classroom + Barbara Coloroso on bullying

by shirley on January 28, 2011

I have the great fortune of having some really incredible guests on the Real Parenting show! This weekend is no exception…

Barbara Coloroso is an internationally recognized speaker and renowned author in the areas of parenting, teaching, school discipline and non-violent conflict resolution. She has four best selling books, has appeared on Oprah, been featured in the New York Times and will be coming to Victoria, Saturday Feb 5th for the Vancouver Island Parent Conference!

I am thrilled to be speaking with her this Saturday, Jan 29th. We’ll chat about her books, bullying, and what parents & educators can do to help our children avoid the cycle of violence.

I’ll also be giving away a ticket to the Vancouver Island Parent Conference, so be sure to tune in!

Where does empathy come from? How can our children learn to have some?

Roots of Empathy is an award-winning charitable organization that offers empathy-based programming for children. A parent & baby from the community visits a classroom over the course of a year with a Roots of Empathy instructor. Children observe the relationship between the baby & parent and learns how the baby is growing and changing, how the parent responds to the baby’s needs. Children learn to understand the perspective of the baby and the attachment relationship between the parent & baby, an ideal model of empathy.

I’ll be joined by Pamela Hachey, Senior Mentor and Christina Rumsey, volunteer facilitator for Roots of Empathy.

Join me for Real Parenting this Saturday, January 29th from 10am-11am PST on CFAX 1070. (Live stream available on the station website)
