Ask the Midwife

by shirley on April 13, 2012

Did you know that pregnant women can self refer to a Registered Midwife in British Columbia and that their care is covered by our Medical Services Plan? Did you also know that approximately 70% of British Columbia’s midwifery clients give birth in a hospital while the remaining have home-births? Are you thinking about how to prepare for labour or breastfeeding?  This Saturday, April 14 at 10am PT, I welcome Registered Midwives to Real Parenting radio on CFAX 1070 to talk pregnancy, birth, postpartum and to answer your questions!

Jill Pearman, Jody Medernach, Ilana Stanger-Ross and Julie Stolk make up The Midwives Collective, one of several midwifery practices on Vancouver Island. Whichever ones are not attending a birth will be joining me in the studio!

Feel free to send in your questions prior to the show by leaving a comment below, on Facebook or through Twitter. You are also welcome to call in with your questions at 250-386-1161.

I’ve just found out I am pregnant, and am only 4 weeks along. How long should I wait to contact a midwife. Is it too early right now? Thanks.

You should contact midwifery offices right away & get booked in to meet a few so that you can choose one. The sooner the better so you can reserve a spot as they only take a small number per month. Find midwives in BC here: http://www.bcmidwives.com/
