Students at Belmont High School have taken matters into their own hands, getting more than 1700 signatures on a petition and staging a mass walkout from school to draw attention to the need for a two new schools to be built in the Westshore. Belmont is the only high school in the area and is dramatically over capacity and in a state of disrepair.
The students are trying to get the attention of the B.C. government who they say has been stalling on a plan by the Sooke School District to replace the aging school with two new ones to serve the rapidly growing community.
