Navigating the scary new world of allergies

Gwen Smith, editor for Allergic Living Magazine

Your child has been diagnosed with allergies and the frightening term “life threatening” is being used in reference to your beloved little one. Very scary indeed!

Suddenly, reading labels at the grocery store, dealing with school, relatives, birthday parties, babysitters, play dates, summer camp – they all takes on a whole new level of anxiety.

Gwen Smith, editor of Allergic Living Magazine knows it’s all manageable, but there is a learning curve. As someone who suffers from allergies herself, Gwen will share tips on how to make navigating allergies a little easier.

Supporting the early years

Colleen Hobson, a member of the Council of Partners of Success by Six has been actively involved with early childhood development in the Greater Victoria area for over 10 years. She believes that the early years are some of the most important in a child’s life and our community has a vital role in supporting parents in those first years.

Success by Six is a unique partnership between the provincial government, business and the community through the United Way.  The three main objectives include: leveraging resources and building  community capacity to support young children and their families; raising awareness of the importance of the Early Years and increase public support for Early Childhood Development; and to influence public policy at the local and provincial level to benefit young children and their families.

We’ll discuss what Play Greater Victoria and Success by 6 is doing in our community to support growing families plus how families can have their say in the Early Years Awards.

Catch these guests on the Real Parenting radio show this Saturday, March 5th from 10-11am PST on CFAX 1070. Live stream is available on the CFAX website.
