Spotlight on cool Summer Camps in Victoria

by shirley on June 1, 2012

Summer is just around the corner and many parents are sorting out summer camps for their kids. There are so many to choose from: local recreation centres, sports programs and specialty programs offered by local businesses and organizations.

We found a handful of unique programs to spotlight on Real Parenting this Saturday from 10-11am PT on CFAX 1070.

Victoria Kids Hack Jam -Hackasaurus makes webmaking and digital learning easy, social and fun. Emma Irwin is a mom to three girls and a Senior Software developer at Royal Roads University. She wants to empower kids to move from consumers and users of technology, to directors and makers!

Dr. Laurie Waye is a mom of 5 kids, an author, the manager at UVic’s writing centre, and helps co-ordinate the summer programming at Elizabeth Buckley School. The STE(A)M programs at this summer camp incorporate science, technology, engineering, arts and mathmatics into the curriculum.

We will be doing a giveaway for tuition for a week-long exciting summer camp at Elizabeth Buckley school, so listen in for your chance to win! Call in number will be 250-386-1161.

Paisley Aiken, mom of three kids and co-ordinator of Story Studio, loves to help build kids’ enthusiasm for creative writing and enrich their relationship with literacy. At Story Studio, they are dedicated to coaching youth through the writing process, enabling them to experience success as authors, and strengthen their ability to write in their own voice. Kids from three years of age and up can create, illustrate and bind their own stories or poetry to bring home.

Turn your kids’ thumbs green at the GRUBS summer camp with Lifecycles Project Society and the Greater Victoria Compost Education Centre. This day camp offers fun and educational agriculturally-based experiences including: exploring urban farms, building compost bins, playing with worms, learning about local food, planting seeds, growing veggies, outdoor games & activities and daily farm field trips. Outreach Co-ordinator, Shannon Raison joins me on the show to share more about this cool summer camp for kids.

Spend your summer on stage! Roderick Glanville, is a well known, award winning Victoria actor, teacher and Studio Principal with Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Studio. He joins me to discuss the acting camps for all ages with Kaleidoscope this summer. From musical theatre, acting adventures and teen shakespeare, students have the opportunity to explore theatre and performing arts for a summer camp experience unlike anything they have ever had before.

Hear about all these great programs by tuning in or streaming live with Real Parenting this Saturday, June 2 at 10am on CFAX 1070

Thank you so much for your help in spreading the word about FUN Camps. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Hi Shirley, I am not sure if you still get these comments, but I just came across this post and was wondering if it would be possible to include FUN Camps in any exciting camp articles or guides that might be written about this year? We truly are a very innovative camp with something completely unique to offer! I would be happy to chat with you about them if you’d like! I can be reached at the email above. Thank you so much for your time!
