Crafting our lives + Adoption in BC

Are you crafting your life?

Amber Strocel from Crafting My Life

As parents we spend a lot of time encouraging our kids to follow their dreams, but sometimes we are out of touch with our own dreams. Perhaps we find ourselves in a rut,  just need a boost, encouragement, inspiration, or a few tools to figure it out.

Amber Strocel describes herself as a crunchy granola mom of two, a suburban superstar and an incorrigible dreamer. She spends her days trying to organize chaos, and eats a lot of chocolate on the sly. After she was laid off from her engineering job in 2009 she decided to embark on a journey to figure out what she really wanted to be when she grew up. Now she’s on a quest to help other moms do the same thing at Crafting my Life.

Adoption in BC

For more than 30 years Adoptive Families Association of BC has promoted adoption and supported adoptive families in BC. This province-wide organization provides education, connections and support for adoption. They are dedicated to finding a family for every child, both in BC and abroad

Cathy Gilbert is as an Adoption Support Coordinator with AFA BC.

The Gilbert Family

She delivers support programs for prospective and adoptive families here on Vancouver Island.  This includes: one to one phone or in person support, parenting education, learning opportunities, support groups, family socials, and the promotion of BC’s Waiting Child Program. Cathy and her husband are parents  to 16 children, 4 by birth and 12 by adoption, most who joined the family via the foster care system and are now ages 9 through 30. You can read more about her family here.

I look forward to chatting with Amber and Cathy this Saturday, February 19 on Real Parenting from 10-11am on CFAX 1070. Stream it live here.
